MEET MARI

Mari Sanchez Belew is a proud Latina, Army veteran, and experienced business strategist running for Bexar County Clerk.

Her story is one of service, resilience, and an unshakable commitment to building a more just and equitable future for all families in Bexar County. She brings the strength of her military leadership, the heart of a mother, and the vision of a true public servant to this campaign.

Raised in a working-class household rooted in public service, Mari Sanchez Belew saw early on the power of determination and community leadership. Her mother began her career as a school secretary and later became a municipal judge, breaking barriers and paving the way for women in local government. Her father served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, instilling in her a deep sense of duty and love for country.

LEADERSHIP & SERVICE

Determined to serve her country and her community, she joined the United States National Guard while still in college and went on to serve as an active duty Captain in the U.S. Army. As a Military Intelligence Officer, she led complex operations, safeguarded national security, and protected the lives and rights of hundreds of soldiers under her command. She served as a Battalion Intelligence Officer, planning and managing critical intelligence and security operations, including time deployed in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom V.

She is a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute, holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a concentration in Public Health Education from James Madison University, and earned her Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Her education and professional background have prepared her to lead with skill, clarity, and compassion.

In the private sector, Mari Sanchez Belew has spent more than 16 years leading in roles that require both vision and accountability. As a Business Risk and Controls Advisor at USAA and a strategic analyst with the Bacik Group she holds a Top Secret Security Clearance, has helped federal agencies and businesses navigate complex systems, improve transparency, and protect financial and cybersecurity integrity. Her ability to manage people, processes, and budgets reflects the real-world expertise she will bring to the Bexar County Clerk’s Office.

FAMILY & FAITH

At the center of her life is her family. She and her husband Chad are raising four children—Jayden, Jaxon, Jett, and Yara—right here in Bexar County. They are the reason she fights so hard for a future that reflects the values of fairness, opportunity, and dignity.

Mari Sanchez Belew is running for Bexar County Clerk because she believes everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and respected. She believes in expanding access to government services, protecting the right to vote, and using technology to bring more efficiency and transparency to the Bexar County Courthouse.

As a Democrat, she stands firmly for freedom, voting rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and defending working families.  Her campaign is about creating an Office that works for the people. That means meeting communities where they are, addressing the needs of those who are often ignored, and bringing humanity back into how government serves.

In Her Own Words...

"I’m running because I want to build something better, for people like us, for people like me, for Latinas, for working moms, for our children, and for anyone who has ever felt unseen or unheard.  My faith teaches me to love people deeply and to see them fully. That’s what public service means to me.  And that’s the energy I’ll bring to the Clerk’s Office every single day."

With deep roots, real experience, and a bold Democratic vision,

Mari Sanchez Belew is ready to lead Bexar County forward.
