MEET MARI

Mari Sanchez Belew is a proud Latina, Army veteran, and experienced business strategist running for Bexar County Clerk.

Her story is one of service, resilience, and an unshakable commitment to building a more just and equitable future for all families in Bexar County. She brings the strength of her military leadership, the heart of a mother, and the vision of a true public servant to this campaign.

Raised in a working-class household rooted in public service, Mari Sanchez Belew saw early on the power of determination and community leadership. Her mother began her career as a school secretary and later became a municipal judge, breaking barriers and paving the way for women in local government. Her father served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, instilling in her a deep sense of duty and love for country.

LEADERSHIP & SERVICE

Determined to serve both her country and her community, Mari joined the United States National Guard while still in college and went on to serve as an active duty Captain in the U.S. Army. As a Military Intelligence Officer, she led complex operations, safeguarded national security, and protected the lives and rights of the soldiers under her command. She served as a Battalion Intelligence Officer during Operation Iraqi Freedom V and managed personnel, security, and mission planning at a high level of responsibility.

Her education includes a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences concentrated on Public Health Education, a Master of Business Administration, and professional cybersecurity certifications such as Security Plus and GIAC GISF, which reflect her training in modern information protection and system security. Her education and service have shaped a leadership style rooted in preparation, clarity, and care.

After the military, Mari spent more than sixteen years strengthening systems for both government and private sector organizations. Much of her work involved protecting sensitive information, improving digital processes, and helping large teams understand and manage risks inside complex computer environments.

She managed cyber network operators and cyber threat analysts who worked to defend national systems against real threats. This included early warning analysis, identifying vulnerabilities, and helping teams understand how to prevent attacks before they occurred.

In the private sector, she supported a large national financial institution by analyzing risks in its digital operations, improving internal controls, and guiding teams through system updates and regulatory expectations. She also worked for a government contracting company where she managed financial systems, tracking accuracy, and data integrity for federal programs. Across these roles, she focused on protecting sensitive data, improving workflows, and helping organizations modernize in ways that were both safe and sustainable.

Her career has prepared her to lead an office that is quickly moving from paper to digital systems. She understands how to protect records, how to guide modernization, and how to build clear processes that reduce confusion for staff and residents.

With a rare blend of military discipline, cyber and intelligence experience, and deep analytical skill, Mari is ready to bring stable, knowledgeable, people centered leadership to the Bexar County Clerk’s Office.

FAMILY & FAITH

At the center of her life is her family. She and her husband Chad are raising four children—Jayden, Jaxon, Jett, and Yara—right here in Bexar County. They are the reason she fights so hard for a future that reflects the values of fairness, opportunity, and dignity.

Mari Sanchez Belew is running for Bexar County Clerk because she believes everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and respected. She believes in expanding access to government services, protecting the right to vote, and using technology to bring more efficiency and transparency to the Bexar County Courthouse.

As a Democrat, she stands firmly for freedom, voting rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and defending working families.  Her campaign is about creating an Office that works for the people. That means meeting communities where they are, addressing the needs of those who are often ignored, and bringing humanity back into how government serves.

In Her Own Words...

"I’m running because I want to build something better, for people like us, for people like me, for Latinas, for working moms, for our children, and for anyone who has ever felt unseen or unheard.  My faith teaches me to love people deeply and to see them fully. That’s what public service means to me.  And that’s the energy I’ll bring to the Clerk’s Office every single day."

With deep roots, real experience, and a bold Democratic vision,

Mari Sanchez Belew is ready to lead Bexar County forward.
